Construct-X: Cloud and edge infrastructure and services as part of IPCEI-CIS
With around 3.51 million employees and a total turnover of 655 billion euros, the construction and plant engineering sector is a key sector of the German economy. It requires cross-company, data-based collaboration based on digital technologies to achieve greater sustainability, productivity and resilience.
Construct-X is a joint research and development project involving around 40 partners from the crafts sector, the construction industry, the software industry, research and development institutes and associations.
A federated, interoperable data space is being developed for all parts of the construction industry's value chain in order to provide data for applications in the fields of sustainability, productivity and resilience in the construction industry as part of a cloud edge continuum. The reference architecture and cloud-edge applications will be based on comparable solutions from the Manufacturing-X universe, such as Catena-X or Gaia-X.
The Chair of TMDT at the University of Wuppertal is responsible for the implementation of semantic interoperability in data spaces as part of a work package for the project - this supports the structuring and harmonization of data (structures) through the uniform use of terms. Shared services are being developed for the dataspace that enable more efficient utilization of resources. We contribute to the development of methods for the automatic creation of semantic models and the development of corresponding modeling tools.
Together with the teaching and research area DPBB (Digital Planning, Building and Operation), we design templates for use cases and digital material and product data passports, one of nine exemplary use cases in Construct-X.
The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the European Union and is part of the EU initiative IPCEI-CIS (Important Project of Common European Interest - Next Generation Cloud Infrastructure and Services). Construct-X is thus part of the EU strategy to strengthen Europe's digital sovereignty.
