Dr. Alexander Paulus has been a research associate at the Institute for Technologies and Management of Digital Transformation at the University of Wuppertal since November 2019.
He previously studied computer science with a minor in business administration at RWTH Aachen University, where he received his master's degree in 2015. His areas of specialization during his studies were distributed systems, communication technologies, and software development.
From April 2015, Alexander worked as a doctoral student at the Cybernetics Lab IMA & IfU at RWTH Aachen University before moving to the University of Wuppertal in 2019. There, he received his doctorate in July 2024 on the topic of “Semi-automated Refinement of Semantic Models.” He works as part of the “Semantic Systems Engineering” research group and deals with the integration of semantic technologies into existing systems. In April 2024, he took over its management alongside André Pomp.
His research focuses on the creation of semantic annotations for data to promote interoperability. A particular focus is on supporting users with little experience in semantic technologies, for example through recommendation systems based on machine learning methods. To this end, he designs and develops software systems for various use cases in the context of digitization, particularly in the field of data rooms.
Alexander has carried out numerous research and development projects in urban and industrial environments as well as in the skilled trades. In doing so, he has worked on the creation of systems for data exchange and data integration.
